The Dukan Diet. Shedding the Last 10lbs. An update after a Year. That’s a lot for one post, but it won’t be a long post. Why? Well, it has been just over a year when I first started the Dukan Diet – in January of 2012. I wish that this could be an amazing success story, but be prepared because it is not! This is what I can tell you. It didn’t work for me. I know two people that it worked wonderfully for, but not me. There could be all kind of reasons, but if you read my blog you would have come across a post about finding what works best for you. This wasn’t it for me.
I did not shed those last 10 lbs. Actually, to be totally honest with you all, I went to the doctor in December and I was only 3 lbs away from my starting weight of Jan ’12. Scary. Now mind you, that’s the doctor’s scale. I’m convinced they are a few lbs heavier than everyday household scales, so it was probably only about 5 lbs away.
Anyways, life happened and so did winter, so now I am trying to get back into exercise and healthy eating. I think that is what works best for me. Doing my best to say no to sweets and sugary things and fried things and getting exercise back in my life. Which has started this month of March. One day I hope that I can write a post about shedding those last 10lbs! I will get there!
My exercise routine right now is Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred for the month of March. Then I will move into her problem areas workout (I’ve done it a couple times and I am looking forward to it). I hope to do it every other day. On days like today when I am fighting a cold, the reclining stationary bike and some stepping on the Wii board will have to do. And with the warm weather coming I’m going to start jogging again.
Two things for motivation:
- My STAR reward system. I know, it sounds elementary, but it works for me! Every time I exercise I put a star sticker on my calendar, which is in my kitchen so I see it a lot. As the weeks go by I can see all the stars filling up the month. When I see less stars it is suppose to motivate me to exercise. I’ll be honest, that doesn’t always happen. BUT I love seeing all those stars.
- The second motivator is an exercise partner. She actually lives a far distance from me so we can’t work out together. But we did when we lived in the same area. We talk about eating healthy and exercising and wish we could do it together. Our plan is to text each other every time we exercise. It has worked great for me so far. One day I even texted her before I worked out so I would actually do it. I think this plan will work for both of us and get us moving!
That’s the plan and I’m sticking to it…. especially now that it’s out there… for whoever is reading this… Please know that if you are doing the Dukan Diet I encourage you fully. Know your body and your limits. You can conquer! As Shaun T would say, “Dig Deep!” Or Jillian Michaels speaking of Jumping Jacks, “I know you can do it. There is no modification for this move. I have 400 lb people who can do Jumping Jacks and so can you!”
How is the Dukan Diet working for you? I would love to hear from you! I know there are many that come accross my blog looking for info on the Dukan Diet. Leave me a line about how it is going for you!
You’re right, the Dukan Diet isn’t for everyone, I’ve got friends/family that have started it and done really well and others that have not. I started on the diet August 1, 2012. As of this morning, I’ve lost 66 lbs., so happy! This past month though, having the last 12 to lose, I’ve just stagnated! I didn’t want to do a full blown “blitz” as described in the book, so I just upped my water and exercise. (I couldn’t give up my PV days!) I weighed this morning and finally lost, but only 1 lb. It’s also my time of the month, that ALWAYS has had an affect on my weight loss. SO…I am just going to get back with the routine, and plow on. I know the plan works for me, I just need to get over this hump and break this plateau. I think you’ve done great, just keep on trying what you feel is best for you and thanks for sharing your journey! Oh….get better soon too!
Thanks for your comment! That is so AWESOME! Way to go! You know the last 10 lbs is always the hardest to loose. My friend was at the same point as you and found it very hard. You can do it though!! Upping your water and exercise is a great start. Yes, I hear ya on that time of the month problem!
I think I’m starting to be on the mend, but when I think that then I seem to feel a little worse. Trying to get rest, but it is hard when it is the end of the term! Final papers for my second year of my Masters! Lost going on!
Good luck with those last 12 lbs! Let me know how it goes! You rock!
Thanks…the problem with us women, we start to feel better after an illness and we go gang busters…we don’t know how to slow down! Take care of yourself and thanks for the words of encouragment!
It’s true that you’ve got to find out what works best for you. Obviously I wasn’t on the Dukan diet, but I’ve been able to find something that worked for me. I made a lifestyle change by going vegan. That alone worked for a while in shedding some weight, but even then I stagnated for a while. Then I looked into my portion sizes and worked out the math of my calorie intake to exercise/ activity level in relation to my size and worked out what it took to lose weight. I didn’t sacrifice sweets, candy, fried foods, and the usual (vegan) treats I like, but I did make myself portion them so I never have too much! Figuring out the calorie/exercise intake alone doubled the weight I lost in the average year and this month I hit 70 lbs lost (185 to 115), finally bringing me to my goal that I set out 3 years ago :D. The best part with this system I devised myself, is that it is a lifestyle change and I can keep going with it to maintain my weight.
I love the star sticker idea, I think I might just nab that idea this spring/summer as I get back into regular exercises again.
That’s so amazing Sarah and so encouraging! Thank you for sharing your story on here!
Yes, the star stickers is a fun idea! Feel free to use it! Or any stickers at that matter. It’s so nice to see a filled calendar.
