I finally caved and joined Pinterest.  It was a big decision because all I needed was one more distraction to keep me from what really matters most.  But after some convincing arguments from a few friends I was convinced.  There are a lot of sweet ideas on Pinterest.  There is one I found that I thought was fantastically awesome.  Clementines and Candles – yes please!

laziness

Once in a while it’s nice to have lazy mornings, but not every day when you need to get up and do homework.  After a summer of working 2 part time jobs and needing to be at work at 8am during the work week the transition to 1 part time job and school hit a little harder than I thought.  40 hrs of work down to 6 – 8 hrs of work and studying for my Masters are 2 different things.  But are they really? health, weight loss

Trying to live out a healthy lifestyle isn’t always easy.  It has it’s ups and downs for sure.  The important thing is to try and find what works best for you.  If part of that is trying to loose weight and then maintaining that weight a component to that could be a diet.  Oh such a bad word now a days.  I’m not talking about a diet that you go on for a few weeks, loose the weight, then go back to your normal eating and then gain back twice the amount.  I’m talking about finding something that works for you and maybe it started out as a diet but then turned into a lifestyle that you can easily maintain.   Continue reading →

canning, pickling

I finally tried pickling!  I started off with dill pickles because they are pretty easy to make – well the recipe looked easy enough.  I did have help for my first time, which I am very thankful for!  But I will be trying it again on my own as I still have quite a few cucumbers left.  My garden went crazy with producing cukes this year!

My Mom doesn’t make dill pickles because she says they don’t turn out for her.  She makes mustard (my fav homemade pickle) and relish (not a fav… but my Mom knows that).  I grew up watching her make pickles. Continue reading →

gluten free, quinoa, recipe

I made this recipe for my sister and her coworker the other day for lunch.  We all loved it.  Of course when I cook I don’t always follow the recipe to the letter, so I will give you the recipe from the book, and then I will tell you what I did differently.  I always encourage creativity when cooking!

If you would like to know more about quinoa (pronounced keenwa) read my post Superfood – Quinoa or visit Quinoa365

You mostly see the other goodies in the meal, rather than the quinoa, but it is in there!  See the little brown/redish specks… that’s it.  Remember it’s like rice and fluffs up 3 x its size. Continue reading →
